  • Live Music Estonia joins Live DMA

    Published on 10 February 2020

Live DMA welcomes Live Music Estonia (Live ME) as a full member. The European network counts now 20 members in 16 countries.

Live Music Estonia (Live ME) is a live music branch of Music Estonia (ME), music industry development centre and export office Music Estonia. Live ME was founded in August 2019 by and for different stakeholders in the Estonian live music scene with the aim to gather them together and articulate common goals, map the impacts of the live music venues, promoters and festivals and get into dialogue with the policy makers on a local, national and international level. 15 venues, clubs, festivals, and promoters have already joined the national network since its creation.

“While Music Estonia has had an holistic ecosystem approach to developing the music sector since the beginning, the live music sector, especially live music venues and their challenges has somehow eluded our scope and reach. It has been a limited capacity issue, but also a lack of knowledge and extensive experience.

Henri Roosipold, coordinator of Live ME, has worked in and with the live venues scene for years and is really the best suited person to lead the charge in Estonia in building a truly comprehensive and inclusive live music sector association. We’re very happy to have welcomed Henri into Music Estonia team and already seeing Live Music Estonia take off!

Also, I must underline how much we value becoming a well integrated part of European networks of peers and partners. Therefore, it is a truly important step for us to join Live DMA.”

Virgo Sillamaa – Director of Music Estonia

Live ME will be an asset for the network, making it more diverse with experiences and best practice from the live music sector in Estonia. Live DMA will support Live ME with the network’s tools and expertise in promoting a diverse and strong live music scene and defending the interests of our sector.

Earlier this year, three Live ME member venues (Sveta Baar Kultuuriklubi in Tallinn, Tempel in Pärnu, Genialistide Klubi in Tartu) already took part in the third European edition of the Open Club Day, an initiative promoted and coordinated by our network.

We are looking forward to build on this positive energy and see Live ME as active member of our network’s activities.

  • COVID-19 – STATEMENT – SPECIAL SUPPORT FOR SMALL LIVE MUSIC ORGANISATIONS

The global outbreak of COVID-19 required governments in Europe to react fast and order precautions to avoid the spreading of the virus. The measures taken restricting social gatherings in particular, creates a high degree of uncertainty among the actors of the live music sector. The shut-down or reduction in activities in order to meet the…

  • Carbon Offsetting for Music Festivals: What’s Up With That?

Carbon offsetting has been seen as a solution for many companies, including festivals, to compensate for their carbon emissions and reach carbon neutrality. This article aims to investigate this trend and provide the keys to a good and virtuous use of carbon offsetting, and more particularly carbon sequestration through the planting of trees. Definitions Carbon…
